I literally do not understand how to dress for summer. Black? Leather? I'll admit this is not the best look for 85+ temperatures but sans LJ (first seen here); the cutoffs, bralette and sheer oversized blouse are pretty much on point for summer...(right??) Since I'm all about thrift shopping these days, my blouse is lightweight 100 % silk and cost me all of 2.99. Refusing to pay forty bucks for cutoffs I also bought a pair of mom-jean Levi's and TA-DAH! Authentic vintage cutoffs for seven bucks. I'm also wearing a super cute little corset-style bralette from Brandy Melville and my trusty Vans, of course. I apologize in advance for my complete lack of enthusiasm for *valley girl voice* summerrrrr. Honestly, can it just be cold again so people don't think I'm some weird goth chick? Thanks.

Kinda really loved my last athletic inspired look, "sporty spice," that I pulled out the jeans and nikes yet again. This time I paired my Cheap Monday skinnies with one of my favorite sweaters from Brandy Melville. So I'll admit I felt a little hood wearing a snap back...but realized turning it backwards makes it all kinds of cool girl instead of Compton homie, ya feel me?

More denim?!? Soooo crazy. Well what am I to do when super cute little online shop, Haute Miss, sends me the perfect denim shirt dress?! Light weight and light washed, excuse me while I live in this all summer. On Saturday I wore the dress under my Levi's jacket, vans and, of course, topped it off with my favorite hat. Since I'm all about variations on a theme...this dress works perfectly into my Canadian tuxedo wardrobe staples. Already excited to wear this dress come fall...works as the perfect layer over tights and under a cool baggy sweater.

I'm a mind reader. Ok maybe I'm not, but I do know what you're thinking. Leather..in June? Well YEAH if you want the most amazeballs custom jacket come actual leather weather! LMX, aka bomb dot com babe Sarah Lemieux, creates hand painted vintage leather jackets, "baring the scars of their time, and adorned with imagery perhaps most inspired through the Lessons of Don Juan." Hands down the radest pieces I've ever seen. Instead of having a "B*tch stole my look!" moment on the leather-clad streets in October, custom is really the only option. Rather pretend summer lasts forever? I GOT YOU. Get your hands on one of LMX's trippy silk scarves, soon to be available on Nastygal (yay!!), perfect with a Canadian tux or go crazy and wrap it around like a halter top. I was feeling athletically inspired yesterday in my favorite nikes, varsity jacket and racer cut tank. Got this suede sleeve Car Mar varsity jacket at LF on Abbot Kinney a few months back. It's obviously my favorite because it has a denim body!! Underneath I'm wearing another one of my closet favorites, this cool racer cut tank by ASOS (worn in black here!) And I already said I'm embracing light denim for summer so as a variation on that theme...I'm wearing a pair of Rag & Bone skinnies in "destroyed." Although I felt a little elementary school pairing denim with sneakers at first, I quickly realized why people do it...it's COMFY! This look is perfect for post gym errands (no shoe change required) or anytime you want to look like you could kick some serious a** on the track.

Wearing a dress?! Me? Super rare. Got this little vintage Laura Biagiotti dress for six dollars at the Goodwill on Beverly & Fairfax a while back. I'm not a huge fan of floral prints and girly details but for some reason I couldn't help myself. I stitched on a few of the missing buttons and went to town. Yes, this is the lone floral print hanging in my closet and I'm ok with that.

I'm a dark denim chick at heart. An almost black wash with distressing and perfectly placed knee rips gets me more excited than my birthday and Christmas combined. For real though. This obsession, however, does not fare too well in the sweltering summer heat. Since getting that pair of light blue babies last week, "blue jeans, white shirt," I just might have embraced the other end of the wash spectrum. Light wash denim is perfect for hot days paired with a baggy tank and bright nikes. The solution to maintaining my denim addiction year round! One of my main draws to dark denim is that, without so much as a swipe of mascara, you can seamlessly go from lunch to dinner...BUT I've realized it's totally possible to rock light wash at night! Just trade the nikes for a killer pair of stilettos, add a clutch and some bling and va va voom! You can head straight to dinner and dancing after hitting the farmer's market for kale and cold pressed juice. Although it does feel a little weird looking down at my legs and seeing legitimate "blue" jeans, I will be embracing these all summer long...and hey! Maybe I'll even rock these babies into fall. Crazy! Get ready for lots of light denim in my outfit posts!

Memorial day marked the unofficial start of summer this past weekend. Fireworks, ice pops and watermelon abounded along with a seemingly endless variety of flag bikinis. In my own version of getting into "the patriotic spirit" I whipped out my favorite Blu Life striped racerback dress (previously seen in "westside till I die") from one of my favorite shops ever, Planet Blue on Abbot Kinney. What better way to American-a up my stripes than with the perfect denim button down?! (get it here) The shirt looks cool tied around your waist in the hot sun and doubles as the perfect light layer for post sunset breezes. Since I can't seem to take my favorite hat off...I let it add some cool-girl vibes to this look. Hope you had an amazing long weekend!
